No Waves But Plenty of Laughs at This Year’s Event!

Mumbles Raft Race Postponed Due to High Winds

The team at The BOX Furniture were excited to take part in this year’s Mumbles Raft Race, alongside our sister company Chunk Monkey and their famous fibreglass mascot, Chunk the Monkey. We were all set for a day on the water at one of Swansea’s most-loved community events — but unfortunately, the weather had other plans.

High winds meant the Raft Race was cancelled at the last minute. Like the many people who gathered in Mumbles to watch, we were a little disappointed — but safety has to come first. We’re hopeful the event will be rearranged later in the year, and when it is, you can be sure The BOX Furniture will be there, supporting Chunk Monkey and cheering on the fun!

Making the Best of It

Although the rafts couldn’t launch, the day was far from wasted. In true Chunk Monkey style, the disappointment quickly turned into laughter with egg and flour fights on Knab Rock stealing the show. The atmosphere was full of fun, mess, and community spirit - a reminder that events like this aren’t just about the race, but about coming together and creating great memories.

Most importantly, the day was all about supporting the RNLI, whose volunteers work tirelessly to save lives at sea. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, £463 of a £500 target was raised — and it’s not too late to help reach the full goal (click here to donate). Every contribution goes directly towards funding lifeboats, training, and vital equipment to keep our coasts and communities safe.

Back on dry land, you can catch us at The BOX Furniture throughout the autumn. Our Swansea workshop is open every weekend from 09:00 – 15:00, showcasing our collection of bespoke, handcrafted furniture. From dining tables and benches to unique custom designs, each piece is built with care to bring timeless style and durability to your home.

And if you’re visiting our friends at Chunk Monkey, you’ll also find a selection of our designs on display alongside their signature chunky furniture giving you even more to explore.

Looking Ahead

While the Mumbles Raft Race 2025 didn’t go exactly to plan, we’re still grateful for the laughter, the community spirit, and the chance to be part of such a special local tradition.
